Our Mission
The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation is a dedicated team of enthusiastic staff and volunteers who are passionately committed to improving health care and the quality of life in our communities by growing and maintaining donor support for key hospital capital needs.
What is "capital equipment"?
Its equipment necessary to support and enhance patient care, and it ranges from smaller devices, such as IV pumps and defibrillators, to larger tools, such as a CT scanner or capital infrastructure to support new equipment.
What is the plan to fill this essential capital equipment need?
NHH has the great good fortune of being located in an exceptionally generous community. This community -through growing and sustained donor support-has responded time and time again to the Foundation's requests to help sustain or improve health care and the quality of life in west Northumberland.
What does the Foundation contribute to NHH in the course of a year?
Through its core fund-raising program, the Foundation donates close to $1 million to the Northumberland Hills Hospital each year. These gifts have allowed the hospital to maintain and enhance much of its vital equipment.
A message from our Board Chair

When NHH opened its doors in October 2003, it did so with $14.5 million worth of new equipment in its patient care areas. Much of the money for this equipment came from the provincial government (65 per cent) in the form of one-time, start-up contributions. The reminder came from the community and hospital funds. Eventually, all of that equipment will need to be replaced. New technologies come on stream. Much-used devices, naturally, wear out. While the provincial government supports the day-to-day operational funding requirements of the hospital, the replacement of equipment is largely viewed as the community's responsibility.
It is an honour to serve the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation as Chair of the Board for the next few years, and to work with the terrific volunteer Directors; a Board that represents the hospitals entire catchment area. Many of the experienced members of the board have agreed to continue serving this year and it is with a warm and appreciative welcome that we introduce three new members; Sandra MacCoubrey, Bill Copland and Rick Gadd.
Together we are energized and enthusiastic and look forward to tackling challenges and celebrating successes in support of our community hospital.
Growing up and raising our children in this community has given me plenty of opportunity to experience the superior care we have come to know at Northumberland Hills Hospital. But, until I became involved with the Foundations annual fundraising gala, I had no idea that the extra ordinarily expensive equipment that we conveniently have so close to home is not fully funded by our provincial health care system.
Much of the financial support is incumbent on the local community as end users, and the Foundation is the driving force to ensure every effort is made to provide these funds. It is no small challenge and with your help and financial support our board will remain focused on sustaining and growing program offerings, and equipment purchases for the benefit of all of us living in West Northumberland County.
On behalf of the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation board we look forward to our year ahead and we thank you for your support in ensuring our hospital will continue to be the best facility that it can be.
