For Immediate Release, May 17, 2010

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that long-time gala volunteers Kim Gordon and Wendy Ito are the new co-chairs of the annual fundraising gala. Having volunteered with the gala for several years, Kim and Wendy bring a wealth of experience and exciting ideas to their new roles. This year’s gala is entitled “All that Glitters …Looks Like a Million” and will taken place on Saturday, November 13th at the LIUNA Local 183 Training Centre in Cobourg. This year, Wendy and Kim and the Gala Cabinet have set their sights on raising $150,000 which would bring their 10 year total to $1 million.

Gala guests have come to expect the best in food, décor, live music, live and silent auctions and organizers of this year’s event promise they won’t disappoint. But the Gala is not just about having a good time. It is truly about a community coming together for the purpose of helping to purchase top priority medical equipment for its community hospital.

To meet this year’s ambitious goal sponsorship will be key and new sponsors are currently being sought out. Leading the way, Northumberland Publishers and Cameco Corporation have confirmed as Platinum Sponsors. Many sponsorship opportunities are currently available. Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning Returns for Fourth Year

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – Northumberland County residents will once again have the opportunity to raise their coffee mugs in support of the Northumberland Hills Hospital.

On Tuesday, June 15, 2010, Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning – a county-wide fund-raiser – will have hundreds of people getting together with friends, family, and colleagues, to enjoy a cup of coffee and make a donation towards the purchase of medical equipment for the Emergency Department at the Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Organizers are pleased to announce this year’s event is being held in honour of Jim Boughen and Alf Blything. Jim and Alf were dedicated community members who gave of their time, energy, and enthusiasm to many events and organizations in the area. Sadly, both men passed away last year. Organizers of Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning have spoken to Jim and Alf’s widows and they are very supportive and pleased that this year’s coffee morning event will be in their husbands’ honour.
“Hosting a coffee morning is fun and easy,” said Jennifer Stadtke, Hospital Foundation Board Member
and Coffee Morning event spokesperson. “Simply invite some guests into your home, business, church, school, community centre, or any other place of your choosing. Serve some coffee and maybe a few sweets, and in return guests are invited to make a donation to support equipment purchases for the Emergency Department of the hospital.”

The Provincial Government provides limited funding for equipment purchases.  Therefore, participation in Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning helps to ensure that our doctors, nurses and staff will have access to up-to-date medical equipment to continue to provide the highest quality health care services possible. Since it began in 2007, Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning has raised $180,000 for the hospital.

Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning is sponsored by Sabic Innovative Plastics, Cobourg Internet and Alison Sprayson of Bright Ideas Design.

To get started with your coffee morning register on-line at www.nhhcoffee.ca or pick up a registration form from the Foundation office (located in the hospital, near the main entrance). For more information, call 905-372-6811, extension 3065.
